UK based The Golf College announced today that it was launching its new 2010/11 Programme, which will now include a unique programme for young Swedish golfers who want improve their golf and English language skills at the same time. This programme will be run from The Golf College’s Spanish base in Bonmont on the Costa Dorada.

Paul Lyons, Managing Director of The Golf College, commented:”Our new 2010/11 programme has been broadened so that we can now offer young Swedish golfers aged 16+, the opportunity to take a 10 week English language course, whilst being given daily golf tuition by our PGA qualified staff. We think it’s a unique offering which will really appeal to Swedish junior players who want to take their game to the next level, but are hampered by the long winters.”

Lyons added:”We believe that our base at Bonmont is the perfect environment in which to combine academic and sporting development. It has a top quality Robert Trent Junior course, with fantastic facilities and is located in a very secure and peaceful environment, so there are no distractions from work and golf.”

Denis Pugh is the Golf College’s Master Professional, and will be providing a clinic for the new young Swedish golfers who attend the new programme. Denis has taught hundreds of Tour professionals, including Colin Montgomerie the 8 times winner of the European Order of Merit. He is currently coaching 2009 World Cup Champions Francesco and Edoardo Molinari.

Daily coaching sessions will be taken by The Golf College’s resident PGA trained professionals, under the guidance of Paul Lyons, who is himself a former European Tour player.

Lyons concluded:”We hope that by offering young Swedish players access to an English language qualification and the opportunity to accelerate their game improvement over the winter months, we will be able to attract some exciting new talent to The Golf College. We are also interested in bringing in Swedish students to our full two year, three term course, where they can study for an NVQ in Golf and the BTEC in General Sport, which provides the equivalent of two ‘A’ levels. This includes a 10 week winter camp at Bonmont.”

Retief Goosen is heading back to the Commercialbank Qatar Masters.

Although Goosen was unable to defend his Qatar title in 2008 because of an eye complaint that forced him to withdraw on the eve of the tournament, he did make a return to Doha Golf Club in January 2009 finishing in a tie for 21st place.

“This year was a better year than 2008,” said Goosen. “I think that had I putted better then I may have had more wins, but I was pleased with my tee to green. I’m certainly looking forward to next year where my first tournament is in Hawaii.”

Like many of his fellow Major winners, Goosen is also actively involved in golf course design in several countries.

“My aim is to design Championship courses, not necessarily long courses, but a course that makes you think, and play from different angles, that both professionals and amateurs of differing abilities can enjoy,” he added. “Designing golf courses is a lot of fun – seeing them develop and grow from nothing is very satisfying. I’d like to leave some sort of mark behind. It would be good to think that people knew straight away this was a Retief Goosen course.”

Goosen is the latest golfing giant to commit to the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy – scheduled to take place from January 28-31 – joining Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Kenny Perry and Camilo Villegas in the line-up.

“The line up for the 2010 event is getting stronger by the day,” said Commercialbank Group CEO Andrew Stevens. “Retief’s record is second to none – he’s a winner of two Majors and a former champion. We are all honoured he has chosen to make his only Middle East appearance of 2010 here in Qatar.”

From left to right – Andrew “Chubby” Chandler, Managing Director International Sports Management (ISM) , Lee Westwood & Chance Cozby, PING Director of Tournament Player Relations.

Lee Westwood, Europe’s No. 1 player and the 4th ranked golfer in the world, signed a multi-year contract to continue playing PING golf equipment, PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim announced today.

Westwood, who received his first set of PING clubs as a teenager in the mid-1980s, signed the new agreement on the eve of the Chevron World Challenge in Los Angeles where he’ll compete with 16 of the game’s top players.

“It’s been an amazing year all the way around,” said Westwood, whose recent victory at the Dubai World Championship clinched the year-long Race to Dubai title which crowned the European Tour’s leading money winner. “My two wins and the consistency I showed to become Europe’s No. 1 player again clearly make this my best year to date. To extend my agreement with PING at the same time brings me great comfort going forward as I look to continue my momentum into 2010.”

Westwood owes his six-shot victory in Dubai to a flawless final round in which he hit every fairway and every green in regulation en route to a course-record 64. In carding a four-round total of 23-under-par, he relied on 14 PING clubs, including a G10 driver, i15 3-wood, Rapture V2 5-wood, i10 irons, two Tour-W wedges and a Redwood Anser putter.

As part of the new agreement beginning January 1, 2010, Westwood’s headwear will prominently display the PING brand on the front and back and he’ll continue to carry a PING bag.

“I’ve been with PING since my junior golf days,” added Westwood, a six-time Ryder Cup participant. “They’ve been a leader in innovation for more than 50 years. The confidence I have in their technology makes my job a lot easier. I can focus on winning tournaments knowing my product will perform at the highest level. Whether I’m in Europe, America or another part of the world, they look after my equipment needs on a daily basis. Their service is unmatched.”

In addition to his two wins this year, Westwood posted 11 top 10 finishes, including ties for third in the Open Championship and PGA Championship. Since turning professional in 1993, the 36-year-old Englishman has won 31 times worldwide.

“We’ve been fortunate to be a part of every one of Lee’s wins as a professional,” said Solheim. “His loyalty to PING has helped elevate our brand worldwide as he’s won in every corner of the world. His performance this year has been exciting to watch and to see it culminate with his win in Dubai brings everyone at PING great joy knowing he’ll continue to represent us in the years ahead.”

460 Mid Blade

Rife Putters are set to release their 2 newest models to the UK market – the 460 Mid Blade and the 400 Mid Mallet. Both of these putters feature Rife’s patented RollGroove™ technology that has made them the No. 1 putter on the Champions Tour for the last 2 years and one of the fastest growing putter companies across all world Tours, but at a new lower price point.

The 460 Mid Blade and 400 Mid Mallet are inspired by two of Guerin Rife’s original Tour designs from the year 2000, when he first introduced his putters on the PGA Tour. Incorporating the same technology and design that has made Rife one of the most popular putters on Tour, these two new additions will retail at the remarkably low price of SEK 995
460 Mid Blade
The 460 Mid Blade combines the original Tour blade and Pro Blade in what is now a heel-shafted cavity blade without a hosel. The 460 Mid Blade has a thinner anser style look while the extreme heel toe weighting provides excellent forgiveness. The classic square look of this putter makes it the perfect “entry level” model in RIFE’s product lineup. Even at this lower price point, it still features RIFE’s patented RollGrooveTM Technology which promotes the truest no skid roll in golf. Despite its affordable price there are still several players using this model on Tour.
SRP: SEK 995
400 Mid Mallet
The 400 Mid Mallet is a compact cavity back mallet that has equal tooling on both the heel and toe to create a very symmetrical mallet. The neck has been eliminated to save weight, and when combined with the large rear cavity and scalloped rear flange, the heel-toe effect is maximized and greatly enlarges the sweet spot. Like all Rife putters the 400 Mid Mallet features Rife’s patented RollGroove™ technology.
SRP: SEK 995
“It’s always exciting to launch a new line,” said Matt Molloy, President of Rife Putters. “To see all the research and hard work come together like this is very rewarding. This year we have something new for the consumer. We priced the 460 Mid Blade and the 400 Mid Mallet at a very reasonable SEK 995 to introduce RIFE’s technology to as

3947192869_84a4ae89ba_bMallorca’s top golf course, Son Gual, can look back on staggering progress as it celebrates its second birthday this month.

The 7,240-yard, Thomas Himmel-designed course opened in 2007 and within 18 months was hosting its first professional tour event: the Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open, won by former Ryder Cup captain Mark James.

Another former Ryder Cup captain, Ian Woosnam, walked off the course and compared the greens with those at Augusta National.

The 1991 Masters winner said:  “It’s a bit like Augusta. There are a lot of slopes on the greens. You’ve got to get the ball on the right side of the hole – if you don’t you’ll be struggling. Miss it on the wrong side and you’re dead.”

Six months later Son Gual entered Golf World’s top 100 European courses list and the magazine described it as “…one of the more spectacular courses in the Mediterranean region.”

The reputation it has garnered within its first two years of operation has seen celebrities flock to the course to experience it for themselves.

The Sky Sports football ‘team’ played Son Gual as part of the end-of-season get-together and the likes of Andy Gray, Alan McInally, Alan Smith, Charlie Nicholas, Graeme Sharp and Jamie Redknapp were left eulogising over the quality of the venue.

Indeed Redknapp was so impressed he returned a few weeks later to play it again.

Other regular visitors include the world number two tennis player, Rafael Nadal and Liverpool’s flying Spanish winger, Albert Riera – who has gone on record as saying Son Gual is his favourite course.

Other familiar faces at the course have included Goldenballs’ presenter, comedian Jasper Carrott, tennis legend Boris Becker and German national football coach Joachim Löw.

Son Gual’s managing director, Andreas Pamer, insists achieving a place in the top 100 is just the beginning for Son Gual and not the pinnacle.

“It is good to be recognised as the best golf course in Mallorca,” he said.

“But it is our aim to also be recognised as the best in Spain and one of the top 10 courses in Europe.

“That was always the intention. We realised it was not going to be something we could achieve overnight. We are taking things gradually but we have made a considerable impact on the market in two years and we will continue to provide a premium product for the discerning golfer.”

It is a premium product which is appreciated: its debenture launch earlier this year brought in €1m-worth of memberships in the first month.

And despite the much-publicised credit crunch, more than 30 per cent of the new members came from the UK, as Son Gual’s reputation spread among owners of villas and the cruisers moored in the marina at Palma.

The debentures are valid for life, transferable and cover spouse and all children under 21 years of age.

By the time Mallorca’s number one golf course reaches its third anniversary there might not be many memberships remaining.

Alexander Kramel and Kaia Means are the Media Masters for 2009.
The 2009 EGTMA – PGAs of Europe Media Masters took place in the Spanish region of Murcia from the 9th till the 15th of November. This yearly event is played alongside the PGAs of Europe’s Team Championship and annual conference. The region of Murcia which has the highest number (300) days of sunshine in the whole of Spain has long been underdeveloped with regards to golf but is rapidly catching up with the rest of the Spanish mainland. Courses like Hacienda del Alamo and Roda have only been opened for a few years but are quickly developing a loyal client base by offering a well designed and maintained course while setting a new benchmark with regards to service. The 4 round Media Masters event was played on Hacienda del Alamo, Las Colinas, La Serena and the final round on Roda Golf.
This year’s Media Masters was sponsored by Las Colinas de Campoamor, a brand new Cabell B. Robinson designed and Troon Golf managed course just north of the Murcia province. The course itself, although not officially opened yet, hosted the PGAs of Europe Presidents Challenge when delegates and partners from the PGAs from all over Europe had the opportunity to sample what will undoubtedly become one of the great courses in the region. The Par 71 layout measuring over 7,000 yards (6.377 mtrs) from the Black tees is a superb design and was already in perfect condition for play. The resort will be an eco-friendly development with low density housing contrary to many of the recently built resorts in the Mediterranean. Cabell B. Robinson, who also designed La Reserva and Finca Cortesin in Spain, Royal Evian in France and Praia D’El Rey in Portugal, has laid out a course that is very playable for players from any standard with 6 tees on every hole. Wide fairways and large undulating greens make it an inviting course. The layout follows a valley  and is nestled in between hills covered in lush Mediterranean vegetation which gives it a secluded feel. From the moment you drive into the resort, through a canyon blasted out of the rock, Las Colinas absorbs you completely and will undoubtedly leave lasting memories to those who will be fortunate to play it.
The four round Media Masters competition follows a well appreciated format where the two best scores of the first three rounds count to make up the order for the final round which always counts and is added to the total. The first round was played at the Dave Thomas designed Hacienda del Alamo Resort where a strong wind made for high scoring. The third round was played at La Serena, a Florida styled Manuel Pineiro design with abundant water. The PGAs of Europe tournament staff were in charge of the final round which was played at Roda Golf, the day after the conclusion of the International Team Championship and under PGA tournament conditions. Following last year’s developments, it was all to play for in this final round. Sweden’s Goran Nordquist was leading by 1 point over Austria’s Alexander Kramel with Ireland’s defending champion Ivan Morris a further 6 points back. Although Goran came flying out of the starting blocks with a chip-in birdie on the Par 3 second hole, it was the relentless play of Alexander Kramel that made him the first Austrian to win the Media Masters. The Ladies’ section went to Norway’s long hitting Kaia Means. The prize-giving lunch at Roda Golf was marked by Michelin grade food and the competition prizes were sponsored by Glenmuir, Europe’s leading golf clothing brand.
This success of the cooperation between the PGAs of Europe and the EGTMA showed itself during the congress where interventions by journalists made for lively debates. The gala dinner was also marked by a request from Jo Maes, Chairman of the EGTMA to all members to contact their local PGAs and really live up to the ‘Working Together’ slogan. This received appreciation by nobody less then Ken Schofield, former European Tour Chief Executive and head of the Ryder Cup Selection committee and Sandy Jones, Chairman of the PGAs of Europe.

Simon Dyson handed Rife Putters their first win of the year on the European Tour when he rolled his Rife Barbados to victory at the KLM Open on Sunday evening.

Going into the final round, Dyson trailed by 6 shots, but an incredible final round course record 63 put him into a sudden death play off with Peter Lawrie and Peter Hedblom. Dyson had already holed a 20 ft putt on the tenth and a 35 ft putt on the 17th so when faced with a 20 ft birdie putt on the first playoff hole he confidently stroked it into the cup to see of his challengers.

In regulation play Dyson had only needed to hit 24 putts, including an astonishing 12 single putts along with no 3 putts – form that helped him roll his Barbados to victory.

This was the 3rd victory of Dyson’s career on the European Tour with his first placed cheque moving him inside the top 30 on this seasons European money list.

With this victory, Rife Putters has reached double digit victories for the second year in a row after 15 wins in 2008 on the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours – All without paying a single player. Stats like this just go to show that Sunday evening is the time that it pays to have a Rife Putter in your hands.

About Rife

The secret to the company’s success lies in its various patented technologies including RollGrove™, the LieAline Custom Fitting System and a 4-point adjustable weighting system all of which are seen in the new Two Bar Hybrid.

Rife Putters LLC is the true innovator behind horizontal grooved face putter technology, which has been patented by the company as RollGrove™ since 1997.  Precisely spaced milled grooves allow the putter to gently press into the cover of the ball and grip and lift it into an instant forward roll to create the truest “no skid” roll in golf no matter where you hit the ball on the putter face.

The LieAline™ Fitting System teaches players to automatically set-up to every putt in the same, natural set-up position.  Using a very subtle vertical notch located on the back edge of the top line players can automatically tell whether the putter is set-up to suit their putting stroke.  If the player can see the entire white sight line then the putter is set-up perfectly, if not then you use the LieAline Bending tool to bend the hosel into the ideal position for you.  Once this has been done the player can benefit from a more consistent and repeatable stroke path every time by using the sight line.

Adjustable Weighting allows players to apply different weight configurations to match speed of the greens.  It also increases stability and accuracy on off centre.  The 4 point stability weighting system, as seen in the putters using Two Bar technology, has stainless steel weight inserts in the heel and toe.  The additional rear weighting means the putter’s centre of mass is still driving through the ball as the putter face makes contact with the ball.  By dispersing weight to the four furthest points of the putter you have an extra large sweet spot, which provides your overall stroke with more stability and the face remains squarer through impact.

New Zealand sporting legends Sir Richard Hadlee, Nathan Astle and Craig McMillan joined other celebrities from the sporting world as New Zealand got its first taste of PowerPlay Golf – the new global two-flag golfing format – yesterday at the prestigious Clearwater Golf Club.

And the overwhelming view was that this particular sporting short form is here to stay, with golfers enjoying the high-pressure competitive elements and shortened time frame of PowerPlay Golf, which breaks golf’s normal 18-hole mould by being played exclusively over 9 holes.

Fine weather blessed the PowerPlay Golf launch event on Monday 17th August 2009, at the Christchurch-based golf club. 58 competitors, including international sports stars and representatives from the region’s golf clubs, took part in two simultaneous events, all tackling the unique ‘risk and reward’ golfing format – where golfers have a limited number of ‘PowerPlays’ to the harder of two flags on each green, in return for extra Stableford points – for the first time.

In the launch event Michael Paterson, the popular flanker for Canterbury rugby team, won the ‘back nine’ event with 29 PowerPlay Golf points off 16 handicap, including two coveted PowerPlay eagles to the tricky Black Flag – which both earnt him 8 points apiece. Former New Zealand international cricketer Craig McMillan, playing off 8, converted all his three PowerPlays into birdies on his way to 27 points and a second place finish.

In the ‘front nine’ event, Geoff Foubister – playing off 26 and representing Christchurch Golf Club – scored a huge 33 points including 14 on his three PowerPlays alone, beating the field by 6 points. Greg Neal of Everglades GC successfully gambled on a last-hole PowerPlay, converting it into a net birdie and 6 points, which secured him second place on 27 points overall.

In PowerPlay Golf, golfers choose to aim for one of two flags on the green, a White and a Black. Players earn extra points for birdies or better when playing to the Black Flag, which is generally in a difficult position on the green. As it is nine holes, a round of PowerPlay Golf takes half the time of a normal 18-hole round. The format is being taken up by TV broadcasters keen to televise golf in a more compressed time-frame, in the belief that this will increase golfing TV audiences.

Golfers can go online after their game, registering to earn PowerPlay Golf Dollars, climbing World Rankings and competing in user-generated PowerPlay Golf Leagues both locally and around the world.

Commenting on the day, PowerPlay Golf New Zealand’s Andrew Bell said: “The reception we had today from golfers, and from the officials we met last week, is extremely encouraging. People feel that this game fits into what they’re trying to achieve at their golf club.

”Today’s competitors – particularly the low-handicappers – saw PPG as a very authentic competitive challenge. But we also saw that higher-handicap golfers love the fact that you’re never out of it, in PowerPlay Golf, as you can save your PowerPlays to make a late points surge at the end.”

Former New Zealand Test cricket captain and ICC Cricket Hall Of Famer Sir Richard Hadlee, who scored a creditable 20 points, said: “It’s a clever game which needs thoughtful tactics and very good shot execution if you want to score well. It rewards good play and creates a lot of interest – the game can change very quickly if you use your PowerPlays well.”

Test cricketer and PowerPlay Golf ambassador Nathan Astle, who scored 21 points, said: “PowerPlay Golf is a mental challenge. Whenever you choose the Black Flag option you demand more of yourself – a net par simply isn’t satisfying! PowerPlay Golf creates real purpose in a 9-hole competition; this gives it the advantage over other short versions of golf, which often feel like incomplete rounds”.

Several lady golfers also tried PowerPlay Golf for the first time in the launch event at Clearwater. One of them, Margaret Turner – Club Captain at Burnham Golf Club – commented on the extra pressure golfers face when nominating a PowerPlay to the Black Flag, saying: “PowerPlay Golf is like playing matchplay against yourself!”

And Rod Latham, former international cricketer and rugby representative, and currently General Manager of Harewood Golf Club, said “PowerPlay Golf is a great idea – it adds some extra reward but with a risk attached.”

Other notable sports stars playing PowerPlay Golf on the day included rugby’s up and coming stars Stephen Brett and Sean Maitland.

PowerPlay Golf organisers now plan to follow up dozens of enquiries from golf clubs and golf officials across New Zealand over the next few months. “We believe that PowerPlay Golf provides an opportunity to bring people back to golf,” said PowerPlay Golf ambassador Mark Elley. “It produces a compelling golf event in half the normal time, without sacrificing any of the integrity of golf’s long tradition. We believe that following today’s very successful launch event, more and more golf clubs in New Zealand will want to get involved.”

Troon Golf announces Princes Golf Club as the newest member to its portfolio of managed courses. Situated on the South Coast of England in the village of Sandwich, Princes Golf Club is one of the most recognized names on the golf course circuit in Europe. The established links course hosted the Open Championship in 1932 and ever since has continued to welcome some of Europe’s leading golf events. The newly lengthened Championship course will also host final Open Qualifying in 2011 when the Open returns to neighboring venue Royal St. Georges. One of the most treasured links courses, steeped in history and traditions of the game, the golf course has long been considered one of the finest of its kind.

Following the devastation of the course during World War II, Sir Guy Campbell and John Morrison were commissioned to restore Princes Golf Club. Amazingly 17 of the original greens were saved and a new 27 hole facility was created. Featuring three loops of nine; The Shore, Dunes and Himalayas, the course is as classic a links course as you will find. Naturally sculpted from the Kent links land, deep bunkers, undulating fairways and tricky greens all combine to make Princes one of the most complete and true tests of golf anywhere in the world.

Troon Golf has been working with a wealth of Championship courses in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and America for many years, and has developed an in depth understanding of the qualities required to present a world-class championship venue as well as the intricacies of links golf.

“Princes Golf Club is one of the most traditional and esteemed golf clubs in England whose impressive history is hard to surpass. We are thrilled to be working with such an established name in golf and look forward to forging strong partnerships with the team there,” commented Bruce Glasco, Troon Golf’s managing director, Europe, Middle East & Africa.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, Troon Golf EMEA is committed to developing Troon Golf’s presence in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This rapidly expanding division now oversees operations at 39 courses in 14 countries including Dubai, Portugal, Spain and England with further expansion planned across all regions.

NIKE GOLF’S OVEN IS BIGGER, BETTER AND HOTTER
-Nike Golf’s State-of-the-Art Research and Design Facility has Expanded-
3rd June 2009:– Nike Golf formally unveiled the expansion of its full service, state-of-the-art research and design (R&D) facility known as “The Oven,” in Fort Worth, Texas. The newly enhanced 49,100 square foot facility, which originally broke ground in October 2002, has increased its total square footage by 17,600.
This is Nike Golf’s second R&D expansion in just three years. The Nike Oven is dedicated to research and design for the development of performance golf clubs, testing of both clubs and golf balls, as well as collaborating with and providing superior service for Nike Golf Tour athletes. Hand in hand with the creation of new products, the facility is an essential component for Nike Golf’s talented tour athletes, who depend on “The Oven” for testing and fitting to ensure that they are personally equipped to perform at their very best.
“The Nike brand is globally synonymous with innovation, performance and the pursuit of athletic excellence,” said Cindy Davis, President of Nike Golf. “The expansion of “The Oven” is an indication of Nike Golf’s commitment to our athletes, as well as to solidifying our role as an undisputed leader in the research, design and development of clubs and balls.”
The most significant component of the expansion is the addition of a 129,000 square-foot short game area that includes three synthetic greens, one natural grass green, bunkers and practice holes. The practice holes and hitting areas are designed for the purpose of providing various distances for short irons so that iron and ball testing is both extensive and constructive for Nike engineers and Nike athletes. The short game area also is enhanced by a water feature that runs through the middle of the short game course.
The other standout enhancement to “The Oven” is Nike Golf’s research building which has almost doubled in size and houses offices and a new large auditorium for meetings and presentations.
“The Oven” is the idea tank where Tom Stites, Nike Golf’s director of product
creation for clubs, and his staff of engineers and technicians develop, research and test the innovative technology that has helped Nike Golf to become one of the fastest growing companies in the history of the golf industry. Rock Ishii, Nike Golf’s product director for golf balls and his staff of engineers and technicians also utilise the facility as the primary location for ball testing. In conjunction with club testing, the ball team obtains launch parameters, track trajectory and measures actual carry, roll and dispersion.
The Nike Oven features technologically advanced equipment that takes Nike Golf’s research to the next level. This equipment includes a computer controlled mechanic golfer, state-of-the-art putting lab, track man, launch monitors, assembly room, club milling and grinding laboratory as well as other test areas for conducting:
- Numerous proprietary instruments for golf club analysis.
- Shaft testing for flex, frequency, torque and durability.
- Cannon testing for durability and COR compliance.
- COR Pendulum for metal wood COR compliance and performance.
- Mass moment of inertia testing process and center of gravity measurement
process.

Pristine Bay Resort, Black Pearl Golf Course Take Shape on Tropical Island of Roatan
Luxury Residences, Beach Club, Sales Center Scheduled to Open Soon
(ROATAN, Honduras) — Pristine Bay Resort, home of The Black Pearl Golf Course designed by Perry and Pete Dye, is continuing to exceed construction benchmarks as it moves toward completion.
Pristine Bay is located on the tropical island of Roatan, one of the Caribbean’s last undiscovered jewels. Accessible via non-stop flights from a number of North American cities, including New York, Miami, Houston and Atlanta, it’s idyllically situated adjacent to the world’s second largest barrier reef.
Routing of The Black Pearl, Roatan’s first golf course, is complete and several holes have been shaped and grassed. Nine holes are expected to be ready for play by Fall, and all 18 will be finished by the first quarter of 2010. Alternately hugging the coastline and weaving through the island’s foothills, the par-72, 7,157-yard layout will have 14 holes with Caribbean views and a Dye-signature, island-green par 3.
Development of the property’s residential component is also progressing, as is the resort’s Beach Club. The first phase of luxury villas are well underway, electric and water utilities have been hooked up, and all access roads paved. Lots start at $230,000 and range up to $700,000. Two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas are priced from $600,000 to $1 million, while condominiums range from $348,000 to $700,000.
Pristine Bay’s Beach Club, gateway to one of the world’s great scuba and snorkeling playgrounds, is slated for a March 2010 unveiling. Not to be overlooked, the development’s new sales center is almost complete and strategically located to offer visitors and prospective buyers a bird’s-eye view of the entire property as it gently descends to the edge of the Caribbean’s azure waters.
“Although many resort projects in the Caribbean have been delayed or altogether postponed, Pristine Bay’s construction continues at a steady pace,” says Mario Toriello, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Pristine Bay Resort. “With the golf course and first phase of residences nearing completion, Pristine Bay is poised to take its first step toward becoming the region’s premier golf and lifestyle development.”
Roatan’s an ideal location for second-home ownership or retirement, as it has exceptionally favorable property and tax laws for foreigners. They can own up to three-quarters of an acre and Pristine Bay offers all-important title insurance. Property taxes are approximately $1.30 for every $1,000 of assessed value and there are no income tax, sales tax or import duties.

Designed specifically to provide additional support where it is needed most, Nike Golf has developed the groundbreaking Air Zoom TW 2009, a Tour grade shoe that offers the luxury of leather with the built-in performance benefits of lighter and more durable materials. Working closely with the world’s number one golfer on the design and development of the shoe, Nike Golf introduces the Air Zoom TW 2009, the first shoe combining leather and Ballistic Mesh technology, unique to the golf industry.

Making golf shoes that meet the needs of the world’s greatest player is always a demanding task. Tiger Woods, like most other golfers whether professional or with a handicap, experiences a left foot roll over in the follow through, moving his weight off the centre of the shoe’s stability platform and transferring pressure to the upper part of the shoe – an area not normally designed to cope with such massive lateral forces, until now.
